Songwriting

Gary Faires has been writing songs since gaining possession of a 4-track recorder in 1984.  Having a diverse set of musical and literary influences combined with a long-standing love of language, his music cannot easily fit into a single genre or style and definitely strays from the contemporary commercial trends of simple formulaic chord progressions and rigid, gridlocked quantization.  He enjoys layered meanings, clever innuendo, and avoidance of lyrical cliches while still creating something listenable.  All of this aligns harmoniously with the fact that he's too old to be maintaining any fantasies of music stardom.  It's songwriting for fun and personal creative satisfaction rather than any degree of mass acceptance, although he wouldn't complain about a little of that. 

This is a playlist of lyric videos of selected Gary Faires original songs.  All recordings are demo quality home studio productions with Gary playing all instruments and doing all vocal parts.  There is one exception to that and collaborator credits are noted in that song's video.
